Marfa Police Department Mission Statement

Marfa Police Department is committed to protecting our community and crime victims and to providing fair and unbiased enforcement of criminal justice laws. Recognizing our responsibility as public servants to maintain order while affording dignity and respect to every individual, our objective is to improve the quality of life through a community partnership that promotes safe, secure neighborhoods.

City Ordinance 17-05, approved by Marfa City Council in May 2017, re-established the Marfa Police Department and committed the City of Marfa to transparency, accountability, and community policing within the City of Marfa in accordance with Texas Local Government Code 341.001. The Marfa Police Department resumed operations on October 23, 2018.

Under the leadership of Chief Gilbert Carrillo, the Marfa Police Department maintains public safety for the City while ensuring that standard procedures and policies are followed and that the department’s operations are compliant with laws and regulations. The department strives to be a positive presence and a reassuring resource for the Marfa community.

Part of its public services includes courtesy rides, unlocking vehicles, and offering free Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) training to local businesses.
