City of Marfa Seeks Members for Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) Grant Committee
The City of Marfa awards grants to qualifying events and activities through its Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) fund. City Council recently moved to create a special committee to review grant applications and recommend awards. The committee will be appointed by Council; interested individuals are invited to submit a letter of interest.
By state statute, HOT funds must be used to enhance three areas related to tourism: historical preservation, arts and cultural events, and advertising. All events and programs funded by HOT must directly increase tourism and hotel and motel usage in Marfa, Texas. The HOT grant committee will be responsible for decision-making in compliance with these regulations.
The seven-member committee will include two citizen representatives, two representatives from Marfa’s hotel, lodging, or tourism industry, one individual from the arts community, one member from the preservation field, and the mayor or city manager.
The committee will review applications for Arts & Culture Grants and Historic Preservation and Restoration Grants twice annually, once in August and again in January. The committee will review applications for Advertising Grants quarterly.
To be considered for appointment, please submit a letter of interest by 5:00 pm Thursday, July 5, 2018. Letters may be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or dropped off at City Hall
